Solar Eclipse Magick: 25th October 2022
Sorry, I accidentally unfollowed and re-followed you! Not tryna spam. I just wasn’t sure what the little “following” icon meant in WP so I clicked it. oops!
Anyway—sending lots of solar eclipse/final chemo healing vibes to you!!
Lol! All good! Thank you for the healing wishes – I’ve been writing these blogs through my first anniversaries of my cancer experience from the information in my journals that I shared on social media. I’m still experiencing a lot of deficits and recovering from another surgery at the moment. When this was all happening, I was so focussed on survival, I feel like I didn’t fully integrate the experience – so these blogs have been such a great way to do that! I’m also hoping that other people will benefit from them in some way.
We do benefit from you sharing your experience! One of my good friends got cancer about a year and a half ago. She’s currently getting ready to leave the hospital after nearly a month there for a bone marrow transplant. I never understood the depth of what people go through—or how to best lend support—until she started sharing her stories through writing.
🖤
May her path to reliable health be smooth.
Yeah, I think our models of how to navigate illness ourselves or to support others whilst they navigate their experiences are really … old fashioned, for lack of a better word.
I did a lot of reading with peer reviewed scholarly articles about how best to navigate my experience; what strategies produce the best outcomes etc.
Then I just basically did all that.
Some of it was very counter-intuitive to me – my instinct was to ball up and withdraw, but studies indicate that transparency, leaning into your support networks, asking for help are all strategies that support best outcomes and strengthen resilience.
It’s been a learning curve for me too – that’s why I always pack my blogs with links so that people have the resources to do a deeper dive if they want, or can just read the blog as a stand alone.
Writing really helps.
