Absolutely worth the read; I have experienced a few geas – one that seems to be pretty much life long, my shortest one has been a 6 month request, and I have had others of varying lengths of time.
My experience is that they are a prohibition (something not to do or wear) or a directive (something to do or wear), and I regard them as a devotional act.
